Overview
GWC’s short courses aim to provide a practical education and training on biblical interpretation methodology, particularly through the use of biblical theology. They have been developed with members of the local church in mind; either those engaged in or being trained for ministries within their context.
Short Course in Biblical Theology
Learning hours: 120 ׀ Learning Level 5
This course deals with some of the issues that emerge when reading an ancient book (the Bible) as God’s Word for us today, and how to bridge that gap. The importance of understanding the Bible in the way its authors and original readers did, as well as the nuances of different genres and of context work in interpretation are discussed, and the tool of Biblical Theology shown as a means of connecting the Scriptures to our modern-day context.
Short Course in Mark’s Gospel
Learning hours: 120 ׀ Learning Level 5
Through gaining familiarisation with the book of Mark, this course helps students become better Bible readers. It also focuses on the Gospel itself and the theology that emerges from it, the context in which the Gospel was written and first read, and the way in which God continues to speak to his people today through this foundational Christian text.
Short Course in Reading your Culture
Learning hours: 120 ׀ Learning Level 5
This course gives students an awareness of the daily stories people live out about the world and themselves, and how they can be identified and understood through cultural texts and trends. The skill of theological reflection is practised by setting these stories within the Bible’s redemptive storyline, with students also being given the opportunity to demonstrate their cultural reading skills by authoring their own case study.
Short Course in Teaching and Learning for Higher Theological Education (TALHITE)
Learning hours: 120 ׀ Learning Level 8
TALHITE is a professional development course for theological educators who are already engaged in teaching and learning in their institutions. It consists of three phases (Introductory Session, Classroom Practice, Deepening Workshop) comprising a week of intensives, a time of practical implementation, and a further week of reflection.
