WHAT IS THE ERF?
The ERF is a community of evangelical scholars engaged in research in theology and related disciplines. We aim to provide a stimulating, gospel-shaped, academic environment, within which scholars can encourage each other, cultivate our skills, and share our work. We pursue scholarship that produces a mature contextual understanding of the Gospel to serve evangelical ministry on the African continent.
WHO ARE THE ERF?
We welcome into the ERF:

All postgraduate students enrolled at GWC, as well as GWC’s own faculty.

Anyone engaged in academic research in theology or related disciplines external to the college, who wants to join our community.

Short-term visitors and international scholars who are engaged in academic research.

Anyone enrolled in PhD studies in theology or related disciplines at South African universities.

Weekly meetings, in person and online, to build community, share research, and care for one another.

Access the Broughton Knox library containing 60,000+ volumes, a world class research facility.

Access to the Global Digital Theological Library of over 600,000 volumes and articles.*

Research seminars and public lectures from leading local and international scholars.

Accommodation on the GWC campus for short term Sabbaticals or long-term study.

Conversation and academic fellowship with peers and GWC faculty.

*Available only for students enrolled at GWC or studying a PhD through another institution.
Outcomes
We support and encourage scholars and scholarship that grows the church in Africa. This is expressed through:

Nurturing research students at all levels by providing a supportive environment for them to mature and grow.

Supporting those who are producing PhDs, as they prepare for academic careers that serve Jesus.

Encouraging and developing scholars who produce academic resources such as textbooks and commentaries that can be used in seminaries and by local pastors.

Preparing people for academic ministries in theological education, Bible translation, or the local church.
