Hope Motlhope Student Centre

In the 27 years that GWC has been training African church leaders the College has outgrown its current campus and needs new and improved infrastructure. To meet this need The Hope Motlhope Student Centre, named to commemorate a student who died in 2011 while attempting to save a friend from drowning, will include accommodation for 56 students, a dining facility large enough to accommodate the whole College into the future, underground parking and social spaces for building community.

Student Bursaries

60% of our students require financial assistance. GWC students hail from countries across the African continent, currently ranging from Kenya, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Cameroon, Ghana, South Africa, Ethiopia, Rwanda, Malawi and Nigeria. Each student is committed to preparing for a life of ministry by studying God’s Word; and as GWC is the official training college for REACH South Africa, so a large number of our graduates become Pastors in REACH SA’s churches.

Presiding Bishop’s Fund

The Presiding Bishop’s Fund is a bursary fund, overseen by the Presiding Bishop, specifically for REACH-SA students who show aptitude for theological training and display gifts for future pastoral ministry and leadership. The purpose of the Fund is to help REACH-SA students who have no financial means to support their studies. In giving to The Presiding Bishop’s Fund corporate donors can take advantage of tax incentives for corporate charitable giving. The Fund is managed by George Whitefield College.

Postgraduate Studies

GWC’s postgraduate degree programme includes a Bachelor of Theology Honours, and a Master of Theology programme. Students in these programmes are equipped to move into ordained ministry in the local church, train men and women in Bible knowledge for ministry in the local church, or accept a leadership appointment in theological education. In addition the Evangelical Research Fellowship (ERF) provides a stimulating, gospel-shaped academic environment for students who are enrolled in PhD level studies at other universities and postgraduate GWC students who are enrolled in BTh (Hons) and MTh.

Explore Programme

The Purpose of Explore is to extend the reach of GWC’s reformed theological education on the African continent through relevant, affordable and accessible study material. Each of Explore’s 8 modules is designed to actively engage students in a personal study of God’s Word, through investigative exercises and focused Bible readings. Explore aims to grow Christians in their knowledge of the Bible and theology, enabling them to teach and to share the gospel in either their local church or workplace.

Library Development

Serious reading is vital to the study of theology. All courses at GWC have lists of required and recommended reading, making the Library a vital part of the life of every student. The Broughton Knox Library houses a wonderful collection of theology, biblical studies, history, philosophy, missiology and more, currently holding more than 60,000 books. A plan is underway to double this and bring it to PhD standard.

General Donation

In addition to administrative costs and the upkeep of existing buildings, it is critical for the future of the College that we plan ahead so there are always sufficient spiritually and academically gifted teachers to cover our programmes.  Our survival and growth depend in Christ Jesus upon the generosity of His people. Consider giving to GWC or one of our projects.

Donations made to GWC from South African donors qualify for a Section 18A Certificate.
