MINISTRY
At GWC we understand that training for effective Christian work requires far more than lectures in a classroom. After all, our Lord spent some three years teaching the twelve with both words and actions. He modelled the Christian life for them and showed them how to do ministry by doing it.
STUDENT PLACEMENTS
A large portion of training at GWC takes a "hands-on" approach. All students get
what is called a student placement where they are assigned to a church or
Christian agency.
The student placement gives the student the opportunity to watch ministry
happening, do it himself or herself, and thus nurture their own ministry style
with the guidance of experienced overseers. Students are involved on a weekly
basis in their placements, up to 12 hours weekly, including preparation time.
Typically this entails Sunday and one evening a week.
MINISTRY WEEK
Once a year students go out to various parts of Southern Africa (and sometimes
further afield) where they are exposed to a multitude of different ministries.
This gives them the opportunity to see Christian ministry in action in various
communities, conditions, circumstances and cultures. Ministry Week has a
positive impact on both the students and the people that they minister to and
with.
MCC
MCC is an acronym for Muizenberg Community Church, the church plant that has
been undertaken by the college and some of her students. Overseen by the pastor,
Rev Brian Koela, the students are involved in running the church, getting
opportunities to preach, lead services, counsel, run children's activities,
Sunday School, read, play music, conduct Bible Studies and discipleship groups.
Every so often open air evangelism, door-to-door evangelism and leaflet drops
are also undertaken.
FACULTY AND STAFF
GWC encourages all its faculty and staff to be actively involved in the life and
ministry of a local church. In this way we hope to ensure that those who teach
about the ministry in the classroom are themselves involved in ministry in the
church, as well as in the college
