DEVELOPMENT
HELP US BUILD A CAMPUS TO MEET TODAY’S NEEDS AND TOMORROW’S
Development
GWC is only 18 years old. It has outgrown its first campus and is steadily building a new one in Muizenberg to meet the opportunities of the future. Its Strategic Plan envisages 200 full time students, a faculty of 13, and 15 staff by the year 2012. As it is able, the College is acquiring property suitable for development.
Property
Coastal Lodge (“The Saloon”) is a century old hotel situated opposite the Study Centre. Because of the ravages of sea air the engineers have deemed the building unsuitable for long-term development. In time it will need to be demolished and a purpose-built centre constructed. In the meantime renovations will be effected to make it suitable for student accommodation and student amenities.
“30 Beach Road” is an old mansion that has been (badly) converted into twelve one bedroom units and bedsits. GWC now owns 8 of these and would like to purchase the remaining four as accommodation for married students.
Foord House is the present single students’ residence. Its dining room barely accommodates the College for its weekly lunch. Once the students are re-housed in Coastal Lodge, the plan is to renovate this building with a dining hall on top, and lecture rooms, offices and other educational facilities below.
A women’s residence is a pressing need. The single women presently reside together in a large apartment.
GWC has kept up with the need for accommodation for married students but needs to acquire more. If you think you could help with any of these projects please contact the Principal for more information.
HELP US ESTABLISH A NEW LECTURESHIP
Faculty
Faculty come and go. It is critical for the future of the College that it plans ahead so there are always sufficient suitably qualified (spiritually, academically, gift-wise) teachers to cover its programs. Its own postgraduate programs are essential for the training of future faculty. Other specialized teachers must be sought outside.
GWC needs presently to add teachers in the disciplines of Old Testament, Historical Theology, New Testament, Church History, Mission, Children’s Work, and Youth Work.
Setting up a new lectureship is costly, but one of the most important things we can do in building a quality training college. Speak to the Principal if you think you could help.
HELP US PURCHASE BOOKS AND RESOURCES
Library
GWC aims to create a fine library and resource centre – for its undergraduate
students, for faculty, postgrads and visiting researchers, and as a repository
of Christian literary culture here in Africa.
The library needs to keep up with newly published works, fill in the gaps with
older quality books, and remain up-to-date with electronic resources.
Urgent Project
Explore is GWC’s own correspondence program for Africa. It presently sells about 1000 course a year. Feedback from users assure us that it is hitting the mark.
Letter from an “Explorer”
“I am so glad that our Lord is in the business of changing hearts and lives. I have just finished Explore the Creator and I don’t think I can begin to explain just what the correspondence courses have meant to me. Not only has it helped me to ground my faith in biblical truth. But it has done wonders in stretching me and growing me in a deeper knowledge of our Lord and Saviour.”
GWC is launching a three year project to increase the number of users to 10,000. This entails among other things the production of the courses in an electronic format with a Bible and other resources included.
A gifted person is under consideration to drive the project.
Estimated total cost of the project: R800.000
First year: R240.000
