COURSES - Correspondence

GWC offers two correspondence courses, our own EXPLORE course and the Moore Theological College Correspondence Course. Neither of these courses is accredited in South Africa. They cannot be used to gain credit towards other programs or for entry into nationally accredited programs.


EXPLORE

GWC offers its own correspondence course by the name of EXPLORE.

Successfully completing the 9 Explore courses will result in the student being awarded the Explore Certificate. To attain the Advanced Explore Certificate the student is required to successfully complete a further 9 courses. These must be subjects not done before from Explore or the Moore College Course.

EXPLORE THE BIBLE traces the emergence of God's
plan for the world from Genesis to Revelation.

the Old Testament and lay the foundations for all that follows in the Bible.

MOORE

GWC is the agent in Africa for the Moore Theological College Correspondence Course. It is possible for students graduating with the Theological Certificate from GWC to go further with subjects chosen from Moore

The Moore Course is split into two sections, the Preliminary Certificate of Theology and the Certificate of Theology.

 

PRELIMINARY CERTIFICATE OF THEOLOGY

 

 

Introduction to the Bible

 

An overview of the entire Bible, plus helpful hints on how to understand its main themes.

 

New Testament 1

 

Exploring God's purpose in sending Christ. Getting to know Jesus through the Gospel of Mark.

 

Old Testament 1

 

The Pentateuch (first 5 books of the Bible). What do they teach? What holds them together?

 

Doctrine 1

 

A look at the Bible's teaching about God - how we get to know Him, what He is like, what He has done for us.

 

Romans

 

Romans opens up the central truths of the gospel. This book has changed many lives. Some of these lives have changed history.

 

Reformation Church History

 

The Reformation period was the time when the gospel was rediscovered. Learn how Christians found the freedom Christ brings.

 

Prayer Book or Christian Worship (choice)

 

How do we respond to the great love of God? How have Christians responded when they meet together? What is the life of worship?

 

Doctrine 2

 

An entire term on the centre of our faith: Jesus Christ. Who was He? What did He do?

 

CERTIFICATE IN THEOLOGY

 

New Testament 2

 

An introduction to New Testament history, working through Acts.

New Testament 3  

Paul and his ministry. Investigating the problems he faced, the gospel he preached and the letters he wrote.

 

New Testament 4

 

An overview of the non-Pauline letters, with an in-depth look at Hebrews and how to understand Revelation.

 

Old Testament 2

 

The history of Israel from Joshua onwards. A look at the major figures of Israel, including Samuel, Saul and David.

 

Old Testament 3

 

The Wisdom Literature and the writings of the Prophets to Israel. Studies of selected Psalms, and the prophetic work of Isaiah.

 

Doctrine 3

 

The Church. What it is and what does it do in the purposes of God? Attention is paid to Christian worship, baptism and the Lord's supper.

 

The Gospel and Epistles of John

 

The gospel and letters of John, showing us the importance of his witness to the life and work of Jesus Christ.

 

Early Church History

 

A look at the life of the early church, covering the cause and effects of the persecution it suffered. An analysis of some of the heresies which beset it.

 

Historical Theology

 

The early church Fathers, and their doctrines. A review of the contributions of Martin Luther and John Calvin. The nature of modern liberalism.

 

Christian Education 1

 

The aims and basic strategies of Christian education, with a study of work with young children.

 

Christian Education 2

 

How do people learn? An analysis of youth ministry, as well as work with adults and families. Planning for Christian education in your church.

 

Christian Ethics

 

The place of ethics in the Christian life, covering motives, moral standards, with a study of some contemporary ethical dilemmas.

 

Apologetics

 

This course is written with the conviction that apologetics is more than just intellectual and philosophical debate. Apologetics involves people's whole beings. Modern apologists need to be concerned with how people feel toward Christ and the gospel as with how they think about Christ and the gospel.
